Event Description: Qissa Qila -e- Mubarak: An Evening In The Red Fort
Agar firdaus bar-rū-e-zamīñ ast
Hamīñ ast o hamīñ ast o hamīñ ast
This inscription on the wall of Red Fort or Qila~e~Mubarak as it was known alludes to its former glory when travellers and historians to the Qila would refer to it as “Hasin Gardun” the magnificent defensive fort…
But Alas what remains of this Fort as impressive as it may seem is hardly a representation of Shajahan’s vision. The destruction that followed the Ghadar of 1857 left the once mighty yet graceful construction a mere shadow of its former glory.
Join DBF this Saturday at this icon of Mughal’s beloved Delhi and see these glorious markers of history as we tell you the tale of this iconic fort and every historic turn and twist of fate it stands witness to.
Watch as it glows in the setting sun with the many hues of twilight! As we marvel at the magnificence of Mughal Architecture their grandeur and opulence!! An evening replete with tales from Shahjahan’s first visit to the victorious march of the British forces…
Walk Facilitator: Mariyam, one of the historians in our team of specialists, believes that magic can be woven through words and good stories. Inspired from her mother, a university teacher, whose oratory skills of story-telling as a means of teaching fascinated her as a child, Maryam has over the last nearly 6 years been working full-time with us, nurturing her own story-narration skills with DelhiByFoot. She believes that with a strong foundation of academic research and knack of painting the big-picture through her tales, she will be able to do
justice in preserving the age-old traditions of ‘oral history’. A true-blue Delhiite and a self-professed foodie, she often puts pen to paper to take her knowledge into the public domain through her blogs with DBF and other e-zines.
She is currently pursuing her coursework for her Ph.D. in history, and volunteers for some of our educational or special heritage walk programmes.
