Event Description : TALK "Indian Ocean Traders (250-1650 CE)" by Prof. Himanshu Prabha Ray


The eighth lecture of the series, titled "Indian Ocean Traders (250-1650 CE)" by Prof. Himanshu Prabha Ray would highlight the beginnings of maritime networks in the early centuries of the Common Era; the spread of languages and writing, and geographical knowledge of the seas; the organization of trade in the pre-modern period and close association between trading groups and religious centers.

About the Speaker:  Prof. Himanshu Prabha Ray is recipient of the Anneliese Maier research award of the Humboldt Foundation (2013 – 2018) and Member of the Board of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies, Oxford.
