Event Description : British Council, in partnership with Social presents “Sing your heart Out”- a documentary on the lives of people who come together to sing as an unusual Choir in Hackney. These singing sessions are therapeutic and stand as a mode of catharsis for many people suffering from mental health issues. These sessions help the volunteers to boost self-confidence and reduce stress. At present, the documentary exhibits the importance of channelizing stress, depression and acute mental health issues out of lives.
Sing your heart out enables engagement activity for people experiencing serious or mild mental health issues too. The aim is to provide unconditional therapeutic help to people who need it the most and cannot ask for it.
The Award winning Documentary has been filmed by camera person Mr. Neil, directed by celebrated Director, Mr. Peter Akar and produced by BBC International. He has documented a day with the Sing Your Heart Out choir where their Jazz-singer leader is building a performance with the vocalists before he moves back to New York.
British Council aims at highlighting the positive social impact that community engagements can have on individuals. When people share stories through music or story-telling, it makes a huge difference and impact on others as well as themselves. Delhi being a metropolitan city and having one of the highest working people in India, has relevance in finding different threads of engagement in “Sing Your Heart Out”.
