Event Description : Timeline Revolt of 1857: Timeline in Delhi 160th Anniversary Heritage Walk

Historical Events :

10th MAY, 1857: A mass mutiny by a garrison of native Indian Sepoys (soldiers) of the British East India Company in the dusty little town of Meerut near Delhi threw the country into turmoil. By 11th May, 1857, the rebels from Meerut Cantonment had reached Delhi and Delhi, the capital of the crumbling, almost non-existent Mughal Empire was suddenly thrust into the limelight and soon the 1st Indian War of Independence spread across Northern India!

14th MAY, 2017: Exactly 160 years after those turbulent days of May, when Delhi was up in arms against the 'Angrez Firangis,' we will take Dilliwallas on an exploration of the strategically significant spots related to the Mutiny in Delhi. Re-live the days of battles, counter-attacks, the spies & the palace intrigues and the terror unleashed in the city as you learn why our city was so important to both the Indian Rebel Sepoys & the English who fought for supremacy over Delhi.

HIGHLIGHTS:
The heritage walk covers one of Delhi’s major fort entrances which saw pitched fighting, memorials erected in the memory of the Indian & British soldiers who lost their lives and churches & cemeteries.

Walk presentation will be done in a mix of Hindi/Urdu and British English!!
