Event Description : EXHIBITION “Tell-Tales" by Nalini Misra Tyabji and Bakula Nayak
Bring short stories through their paintings.

Sweater-clad birds, colourful owls, vintage paper and crazy eyed felines – step into the world of magical stories woven with a dash of whimsy and a pinch of dreamy. Self-taught artists Nalini Misra Tyabji and Bakula Nayak, invite you to ‘Tell Tales’ in a world filled with watercolour washes and happy colours.

32 years after her first show, Nalini found her way back to a canvas in 2013 and splashed it with vibrant colours; and since then her paints haven’t dried up. With a show every year after that, Nalini’s whimsical worlds have found homes in many walls and hearts. Owls, cats and birds with beautiful eyes power their way with recurring appearances in her huge body of work. Closest to her however, is Krishna, her muse, dancing through her paintings and making his way across the globe in many homes. 

Diving into her teapot, Bakula vanishes into another world when her children leave for school everyday. From chatty frogs to hot tub loving birds, Bakula’s growing collection of vintage papers act as canvases for her magical stories filled with meticulous details and calming colours. Legal papers and receipts alike – there’s always a story to be told.

Amidst the mundane nitty-gritties of everyday, Nalini and Bakula string together work that will fill your day with stories from parallel universes to ours. For the lovers, dreamers and poets of the world, their work will bring out childlike enthusiasm and stir romance in the little things. Join us as we swim through an ocean of colour from 11am to 7pm on 19th to 24th January 2017 at Arpana Fine Art Gallery, New Delhi. Owls and birdies will also be taking part proceeds from all purchases, towards a donation for Cheshire Home.
