Bookaroo Trust’s mission is to bring children and books together to celebrate the joy of reading through storytelling, dramatised readings, theatre, poetry, art and craft. This year, we have newer activities lined up. Fifty-two speakers from 11 countries promise to keep the Bookaroo excitement going as in past years. Entry is free from Gate no 4 on Rajendra Prasad Road. Each of the 102 sesions has been crafted for two-year age bands beginning at 4 years and ending at 16 years of age.
The highlights of Bookaroo 2016
Storytelling for all ages with national and international storytellers in different languages, some with musical accompaniment.
Writing workshops, sessions around wordplay and puzzles, poetry, wildlife, famous people.
Lots of adventures with pirates, superheroes, eco-warriors and animals
galore, even a chance for some theatrical improvisation.
A unique opportunity to learn how to play chess at any age. Or for the very young a chance to discover the special power of spices.
Crafts include experimental puppet-making, the soothing powers of Zentangles, creepy critters and more.
At The Doodle Wall there will be a chance to practice 3 traditional art forms - Warli, Patua and Gond, as well as work with illustrators from around the world to create amazing murals.
For older children, there will be some thought-provoking sessions about modern India, its makers, as well as Shakespeare, mythology and their relevance in today's world and contemporary fiction.
Continuing with our state focus, this year the spotlight is on Maharashtra.
From its scenery to folk fables to famous people.
And finally, there is BookArt 2016, an exhibition of outstanding illustrations from books published by Children's Book Trust. The Bookart is already on show at the Triveni Art Gallery beginning the 18th of November, 2016. It will move to IGNCA on November 24th .
“We are pleased with the spread of sessions that we have on offer. In a year that has been trying for various reasons, we are happy that Bookaroo’s ninth edition in Delhi is on,” say festival directors Swati Roy, Jo Williams and M Venkatesh.
