Event Description :
EXHIBITION ‘Urban Ensemble’ solo show of paintings by Ekta Jain.

Former Art College Principal inaugurates the exhibition which showcases latest works by the artist juxtaposing contemporary art with urban culture and trends

Eminent artist and former Principal, College of Art in Delhi, Mr. Niren Sen Gupta today inaugurated a week-long painting exhibition showcasing latest works of promising young artist Ekta Jain, who explores the attributes of urban settings and mystifies them in an abstract yet eye-catching ways on the canvas.

The art exhibition displays an elegant collection of passionate artistic expression created by juxtaposing colours, lines, and patterns delivering an insightful idea of the urban life. While colours establish interplay of artistic emotions and impressions around the archaic as well as urban landscape, the imaginative hues of the painter efficiently filters thoughts and emotions penetrating her nomadic mind.

The paintings pick up with a classy sense of proportion in the beginning and end with an abrupt but interesting sense of destruction. Most of these have been created using acrylic on canvas or mixed mediums.

“Emotions can always be explained in an abstract way, more so when you are exploring cityscape. However, conveying the philosophy of the urban mind takes a lot of effort, as metropolises carry social turmoil and complexities in their wake.  This exhibition is conceptualized keeping that in mind. As a painter, I have used different devices at the disposal of my brush. Here, to literally portray the ensemble of architectonic art, I have tried to juxtapose at the same time, vivid colours, shapes and lines criss-crossing on the canvas. In a way, it is like chaos giving way to a soulful harmony,” says Ekta Jain, the ambidextrous artist.

The imagination riot is being displayed here in a dual form. Firstly, imagination is extended to lines and measurements, and enlightenment of mind, vertical columns and triangular forms to give rise to relational ideas dealing with congestion of cemented structures where a soul may be lost. The lines are mostly triangular, circular, or semi-circular in shape and intersect at curious junctions to define depth of feelings at a multi-layered level. But, the real riot is the merging of colours and the criss-crossing which is being used to break from the tyranny of similar lines.

Born out of instincts of her early life, these paintings are a reflection of the transcendental journey of Ekta, and her closeness with the urban life. She takes a leap onto the canvases to bring out the élan and visual pleasure of the apparently seen jungle of concrete.

Ekta is a positive-minded and empathetic young woman who grew up with a passion for modern art. She has participated in art festivals and group exhibitions across the globe and conceived three solo exhibitions in the last 3 years.
