Event Description : Delhi Blue Pottery Trust and Sanskriti Foundation present "Ceramic Fest Delhi 2016".
It’s that time of the year when Delhi Blue Pottery Trust and Sankriti Kendra organize their yearly event: CeramicsFest, an exposition of studio potters from India. In this, the 6 th year of the popular festival, studio potters and ceramic artists who work from their studios and exhibit exclusively from galleries, will bring their wares to you. Understanding how a lump of clay transforms into the beautiful object in your hands, from the artists who are present, makes the whole experience more personal. The ceramic artworks will be available for all to buy with a price cap, thus making them affordable. This event hosts perhaps the largest gathering of studio potters in one place in the country, and the increasing footfall every year; of people from all walks of life are a testimony to its popularity.
The interesting aspect of this year’s event is an attempt to juxtapose other artistic trends and clay. So here one will observe how seamlessly an artist applies mehndi in the same manner as a studio potter uses the same means to trail a design on a pot. One will also see how clay pots are used for cooking. One can hear the rhythm of the Ghatam in the background and understand how clay can transform into this beautiful instrument. For children to have an understanding of this medium, special workshops have been organized over the weekend. Add to this Delhi’s eclectic street food, and it makes for a ‘must visit’ event.
The Delhi Blue Pottery Trust was formed in 1991 by the legendary Sardar Gurcharan Singh, known as the father of the studio pottery movement in India. Since then, the Trust has endeavoured to bring ceramic art to the frontline of modern art. Several potters from all over India and also from around the world have visited over the years and brought in a mélange of cultures, colours and forms to the pottery studios of the Trust.
Sankriti Foundation was established in 1979, as an art complex to nurture artists from all walks of life. Apart from the three museums set up by Mr O P Jain in the beautiful surroundings of Sanskriti Kendra at Anandgram, a joint venture called Sanskriti Delhi Blue Ceramic Centre was set up in 2005, to promote ceramics.
