About the film: The film "Born to Dance" is based on the life and dance journey of India's renowned Kathak dancer Guru Shovana Narayan (Padmashri & Sangeet Natak Awardee), who has been serving the nation and the world through her dance for the last almost five decades. She is a revolutionary and iconic dancer, who has given new dimensions to Kathak imbuing it with dignity & brilliance, and has taken it to unprecedented heights across the world. Being inspired by her contribution in India’s Cultural heritage director Beenu Rajpoot throughout the film has tried to capture glimpses of her journey of dance.
The film is directed by Beenu Rajpoot along with producer Ashok Kumar Taneja. The film continues for duration of 41 minutes 31 secs and is depicted in English language completely and took one and half year to complete. Through this documentary she tries to put forward a strong message to the society, her documentary film is not about earning money, instead it is all about facts, devotion, soul and beauty.
In this film she tried to show her (Shovana Narayan) persona as a dancer, because she is intense and passionate, elegant yet vibrant, she is effortlessly spanning centuries of Kathak heritage. Being a filmmaker she believes that no art can pass our conscience in the way film does, and goes directly to our feeling. Kathak dance is related to Katha - The art of storytelling, same thing she tries to convey as a film maker. “Storytelling” is a prominent characteristic in a director. How one narrates the story through moving video clips is a challenge eveytime.
About Beenu Rajput : Born on 31 August 1979, Beenu has done masters in philosophy, from Punjab University Chandigarh, She has very philosophical approach for her every project. And this nature has made her different from others.
For the past one and half decades, Beenu Rajpoot has made a niche in the competitive field of fashion designing. Though being a Traditional Fashion Designer, she is also a very Intelligent Film - maker, a creative photographer and philosophical thinker. Her contribution is remarkable and create path for new generation as Film makers. Her qualities are inter-connected in her persona with Fashion designing, Film making and Photo Artiest with philosophical vision.
“Movies touch our hearts and awaken our vision, and change the way we see things. They take us to other places, they open doors and minds. Movies are the memories of our lifetime; we need to keep them alive.” says Beenu Rajpoot.
The film is “Born to Dance” is made in the form of storytelling documentary which expands our understanding of shared human experience, fostering an informed, compassionate, and connected world. Beenu herself is lover of Indian Classical dance form-Kathak and therefore she have always cherished it and wished to contribute to this art form in her own way.
For quite a long time, Beenu was working hard on the film but financial constraints did not allow her in completion of it anytime soon. But with support of Mr. Ashok Kumar Taneja Chairman of PPCT and Mr Harish Narula Chairman of Bharat Shakti and lot of sincerity and patience put together by Beenu Rajpoot the project was successfully completed and will be screened to the anticipated audience now.
