Event Description : The Poetry Society (India) and India International Centre cordially invites you, your friends and family members to Hasya Kavita ki ek Shaam: An Evening with Dr. Ashok Chakradhar

Dr. Ashok Chakradhar is a renowned Hindi poet, writer and a media personality. He has been a Professor and Head of the Department of Hindi at Jamia Millia Islamia (Central University). After serving for 29 years, he took voluntary retirement to focus on working towards the propagation and development of the Hindi (Hindustani) language. In 2007 he became the Hindi coordinator at the Institute of Life Long Learning (ILLL) at the University of Delhi and in 2009 was appointed as the Vice Chairman of Hindi Academy, Government of Delhi and as the Vice Chairman of the Kendriya Hindi Shikshan Mandal, Ministry of HRD, Government of India. He is a celebrated poet, widely known for his unique style of poetry. He was awarded the Padma Shri by Government of India in 2014 and Yash Bharti by Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2016. He has been actively associated with radio and television and has scripted a number of dramas, satires and poems for children. He has written, directed and produced many television feature films, such as ‘Gulabri’, ‘Jeet Gee Chhanno’, ‘Master Deepchand, ‘Hai Musaddi’ and ‘Teen Nazaare’ (for DD), ‘Bitiya’ (for NFDC), documentary films like ‘Pangu Giri Langhe’, ‘Gora Hat Jaa’, ‘Vikaas kee Lakeerein’ and television serials such as ‘Bhor Tarang’, ‘Dhhai Aakhar’, ‘Bua Bhateejee’ and ‘Bol Basanto’. Dr. Chakradhar is considered to be a pioneer in popularising poetry on mainstream television. Dr. Chakradhar is a nationally and internationally acclaimed writer, with numerous publications ranging from academic writing, fiction and poetry, literature for adult education to weekly newspaper columns. He has published over 20 books of poems, 5 books on literary criticism, 9 essay collections, 7 plays, 4 books for children, 17 in the field of adult education, 2 screenplays and 2 novels. He has translated 3 books and has been the editor of 5 magazines and journals. His books were published by publishers such as Macmillan, Penguin, Diamond, Vani, Radhakrishna, NBT, NCERT, Kitab Ghar, Campfire Rajpal, etc.
