Event Description : MUSIC : Ms. Shabana Dagar, President of Ustad Imamuddin Khan Dagar Indian Music Art & Culture Society and The Dagar Archives presents Gunijan Sabha Verse 15 – “Darbhanga Dhrupag Gharana”. A performance of and interaction with Pt. Prem Kumar Mallick, who represents the 12th generation of Darbhanga Dhrupad Gharana.
The event will be moderated by venerated Musicologist and Music critic, Pt. Vijay Shankar Mishra of Banaras Gharana.
Salman Khan Warsi, student of renowned Mridangacharya Pt. Dalchand Sharma will accompany on pakhawaj.
Here is the chance to have a dialogue with Pandit Prem Kumar Mallick and understand the deeper aspects of his art and inner cores of his personality.
About the Artist : Pt Prem Kumar Mallick, student and son Dhrupad Legend, Pt. Vidur Mallick represents the 12th generation of the Dabhanga Gharana. He also had the opportunity of learning from his grandfather Pt. Sukhdev Mallick, the renowned Dhrupad singer.
He is “TOP” Grade artist in Dhrupad vocal, the highest ranking given by All India Radio & Doordarshan and in addition is also a well-known ‘A’ Grade artist in Hindustani vocal (Khayal) of All India Radio and Doordarshan.
He has performed in major musical festivals in India and abroad including the Festival of India held in the USA, Canada, the Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Scotland, Switzerland and Denmark, enthralling the audience everywhere.
About the Organization: Scion of the Dagar Gharana, Shree Alimuddin khan Dagar Sahab founded “Ustad Imamuddin khan Dagar Indian Music Art & Culture Society” in 1978. Since then this society is working for enhancement of music, art & culture. Ms. Shabana Dagar and her brother Mr. Imran Dagar are governing the society activities for last 14 years. They belong to the 20th Generation of the Dagar Family. They are the grand children of late Vidwan Ustad Imamuddin Khan Dagar, exponent of Dagarvani Dhrupad Gharana.
Under the auspices of the society, in year 2009, Shabana Ji and Imran Ji established “The Dagar Archives”. This is the first archive of Dagar Family. It is located on 2nd floor of Ravindra Manch. The archives presents the history of Dagars and hosts rare recordings, rare pictures, Artifacts and many more rarities associated with Dagar family.
The society also supports research work. Two students have completed their PhD research work in music under the auspices of the Society and the Dagar Archives.
The society conducts cultural events and Classical music concerts in Jaipur, Delhi and other cities. In Delhi so far, the society has conducted 10 verses of Gunijan Sabha, which focuses on performance and dialogue with artists from different art fields.
