Event Description :
“Shiva Khestra”, an upcoming dance festival gives way to Abhimanyu Lal for re-establishing the cult of Lord Shiva as “Varanasi Ke Vishwanath” in Kathak Style. Also, Bharatnatyam Artiste Satya Narayana Raju will be seen portraying ‘Shiva as Brihadeshwara’. The show is scheduled for 21st Sept’16 at C.D. Deshmukh Auditorium, India International Centre, New Delhi. Entry is free for all ages.
The solo interpretation by Kathak Danseuse Shri Abhimanyu Lal is a mystical celebration of ‘Varanasi Ke Vishwanath’ who is believed to be all i.e.Creator, Preserver, Destroyer, Revealer, and Concealer. It will begin by ‘Shivaastakam’ invoking the mighty lord anddepicting the episode wherein Shiva emerged from the Lingam with Trident to rescue his faithful devotee Markandya from the terror of Yamaraj. Ardha-Nareshwara kavitt and parans are used to highlight the nuances of Kathak and beautify the overall piece. It will be followed by the next item, ‘Mahadev’, which weaves various rhythmic compositions around the melody, “Darshan Deo Shankar Mahadev”. Hindustani classical composition in Raag Yaman Kalyan set to Taal –Teentaal synthesized in choreography brings out the beauty of Kathak. The exalted artistes namely Yogesh Gangani (Tabla), Rajesh Pandey (Vocals), Rishi Shankar Upadhaya (Pakhawaj), Salim Kumar (Sitar), and Vidha Lal (Padhant) will render support throughout the performance.
By infusing mystical concepts with traditional and contemporary lyrics, Kathak is serving an important spiritual and cultural role in the Indian land. Abhimanyu says, “I am very excited about the performance because it is based on Shiva as Vishwanath from Varanasi”. “Being a male dancer, it is always a pleasure to dance on Shiva theme who is Nataraja, the dancing god”, he adds.

We believe, such classical dance interpretations are an enriching offering in the field of arts, which must be encouraged in every way possible.
