Event Description : EXHIBITION : Anubhav Nath, Curatorial Director of OJAS Art presents "Satrangi" a group art show of Mithila- Madhubani Art by OJAS ART Awardees 2016
Master artists Santosh Das, known for creating visually scintillating art works and Protégé artists Mahalaxmi and Shantanu Das along with ten other Mithila-Madhubani artists will be exhibiting their artworks in a special exhibition titled, Satrangi where they bring alive folklore, mythology, daily anecdotes and more.
The participating artists are expert of their field having won the second edition of the prestigious OJAS Art Award and exhibited their art works at the prestigious Jaipur Literature Festival 2016. The award co-organised between Teamwork Arts, producer of the Jaipur Literature Festival, and Delhi-based art organization OJAS Art, in 2016 focused on excellence in Mithila-Madhubani Art. The awards were presented by world renowned photographer Steve McCurry, in a glittering ceremony that had nearly 2,000 people in attendance.

Roy, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts, Producer of the Jaipur Literature Festival said, “We have a proud tradition of celebrating excellence in creative expression which is exemplified by the OJAS Art Award. The Mithila artworks exhibited at the festival were received very well by thousands of visitors and we plan to showcase these extraordinary works of art in India and overseas.”
The Exhibition of OJAS Art Awardees 2016 will have more than 50 works by Santosh Das, SC Suman from Nepal, Mahalaxmi & Shantanu Das, Amrita Das, Dulari Devi, Shalini Karn, Kamlesh Roy,Narmada Devi, Rachana Shalini, Babita Karn, Alpna Shalini, Avinash Karn, Shalini Karn and Kamlesh Roy, At the opening, Shalini Karn will be doing a special Ariappan Floor Art demonstration.
Master Artist, Santosh Das (b.1962) is a well known Mithila Artist. He graduated in English from Darbhanga followed by a Bachelor of Fine Art at M.S.U, Baroda in 1990. Ha has exhibited his works at B.H.U, Devi Art Foundation, Indian Habitat Center, the Retrospective Show in San Francisco, Western Australia and US. His works are in Museums and Institutional Collection of Oberlin Museum USA, Ethnic Art Foundation USA, Mary C Lanius, Denver USA, Asian Heritage Foundation, New Delhi.
His best-known work is on Krishna Series and the Gujarat Series which was followed by a series of Buddha and Yoga. He had painting remoteness in his village of Ranti and teaching the young generation and a great inspiration to many. He is currently working on his autobiography in Mithila style and practicing art in his studio at his home in Madhubani.
Protégé Artist Mahalaxmi (b.1988) and Shantanu Das (b.1983) work collaboratively in the field of Madhubani Art. Mahalaxmi started painting at a very young age, on the other hand Shantanu Das remains a keen student of Literature. Shantanu has also been painting for about then years though Literature remains his first passion. Both continue to paint together since 2012 and worked on a series of 24 artworks on Ramayana for Ministry of Culture, works shown at Amboise France, Ethnic Art Foundation, USA. There art was recently shown at University of Witwatersrand, South Africa in July 2015.
Speaking about the exhibition, Anubhav Nath, Curatorial Director of OJAS Art, said, “The art community has been very supportive of the OJAS Art Award. Over the coming years, we aim to evolve as the premier award in the tribal and traditional art space. As a step forward we will be displaying selected works at the upcoming JLF Boulder, Colorado, USA, which I think is a huge step in taking our culturally rich art, forward.”
