About: Deepti Gupta, an alumnus of College of Art, New Delhi, has been practicing painting for last few years. In Melbourne, at the Testing Grounds, supported by the State Government through Creative Victoria, her painting exhibition was praised by one and all.
She is the first Indian to have been selected for the Artists in Residency Programme 2016 by the Academy Gallery of the University of Tasmania, Launceston. During nearly a month-long residency, which was more of a cultural and art exchange programme, Gupta was exposed to Australian art and culture and she shared her experiences of as an Indian artist as well. Her work earned high appreciation.
My immense interest in art world has enabled me to live every moment as a journey of a painter so far, though I have been a graphic designer as well. My pictorial space narrates tales of life around me. Even a cow comes to my painting as a form of fantasy which has a blending with reality,” she says.
My subjects are based on cows, birds and forms which have an influence of Indian miniature painting.
Her collection of works will be a body of paintings done in acrylic on canvas with refreshing and vibrant colours.
She first creates her compositions on computer for offering particular visual effects and later renders in acrylic on canvas or acrylic sheet. Deepti treats themes pictorially.
“I use bright and vibrant colors particularly red and green on the stylized forms and space. My paintings are mostly in acrylic on canvas. My paintings have an element which has been originated from computer softwares. But my process of executing paintings is completely manual with required pictorial pigments,” she tells. “My area of interest is also designing mural and art with found objects."
