Event Description : Delhi Karavan presents "Dastan e Begum Hazrat Mahal"-Heritge Baithak At Safdarjung Tomb
The revolt of 1857, we say was the first essay on the modern independence. Delhi karavan has previously in it's walk and talk covered what were the turn of events which led to this ' mutiny' , we also spoke of the fate of the kith and clan of Emperor Bahadur shah Zafar post the revolt. However, there were a lot of faces which truly belong to this turn of history, some natural leaders , some who braved face against Britishers to voice that the menaces of a commercial company ruling Hindustan can be suicidal. Amidst such faces, a prominent one was of Begum Hazrat Mahal of 'Oudh' Awadh. She Fired hope in the sunken hearts, appeared like a meteor and spread the flame of freedom in the length and breadth of Awadh.
The wife of Tajdaar-e-Awadh, Wajid Ali Shah, she took charge of the affairs of the state of Awadh when Wajid Ali Shah was exiled to Calcutta. A lady with high stature and commanding aura, she condemned the British for demolishing temples and mosques for making way for roads. The tales of Begum Hazrat mahal may have been forgotten in the pages of history but the abiding mark left by her on Awadh during the mutiny era must not be erased from our minds.
Musafirs, this Saturday we trace the history of this iconic figure Begum hazrat mahal , who ultimately had to retreat to Nepal and now finds a small abode in Kathmandu.
The Baithak shall take place in the the garden tomb of Safdarjung. The palm tree lined walkways of tomb while offering an enchanting vista , shall act as our platform for narrating the tales of Begum Hazrat Mahal, who is considered to blot away the mark of cowardice once royal family of Awadh was accused of. Come be a part of this story of this inborn genius lady , Hindustan once had.
