Event Description : "Fire And Ash" a blend of dance, music & theatre. 
The work reconstructs the ancient icon of Siva as a contemporary concept, relevant to our times. Fire and Ash blends dance, music and theatre, and displays successively 6 large paintings (commissioned for this work) on the stage as part of the production.

Artists: Anjana Anand (Dance), Savita Narasimhan (Vocal), Gowri Ramnarayan (Narration).

Playwright, theatre director, Dr Gowri Ramnarayan is a rare amalgam of aesthetics and scholarship. Her witty, thoughtprovoking, visually interesting, often moving plays make original use of music and dance.   
She has worked for 22 years with the national English daily The Hindu; was vocal accompanist to iconic Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulakshmi for 16 years; translated the short stories of legendary Tamil writer Kalki Krishnamurti, and plays by award-winning Marathi dramatist Vijay Tendulkar; served as a member of the Fipresci Jury of Critics at international film festivals in London, Venice, Valladolid, Oslo and Mumbai.
Her work has been staged at significant venues and performance festivals in major Indian cities. Her productions featured many leading performing artistes of India - Bombay Jayashri, TM Krishna, Vijay Siva, Priyadarsini Govind, Savita Narasimhan, Sangita Sivakumar, Nisha Rajagopalan, Amritha Murali and Sikkil Gurucharan.
Her Dark Horse won two national awards (2007). In August 2012, her new play NIGHT’S END was selected to be presented at the Women Playwrights International Conference, Sweden, where DrRamnarayan introduced the play at a dramatic reading of excerpts by Swedish actors.

Savita Narasimhan
Acclaimed for her sensitive, sophisticated and nuanced rendering of raga music, Carnatic vocalist Savita Narasimhan performs regularly at leading venues in India and abroad. She has a pitch perfect voice of rare emotional appeal to the common man and connoisseur alike.
A vocal disciple of chitravina maestro Ravikiran, she performs, teaches and conducts thematic workshops in India and in annual tours in the US.  An A-grade artiste of All India Radio, she has performed for the Cologne Radio and the BBC, and has recorded 6 solo albums. She has often accompanied noted dancer Alarmel Valli, a Padma Bhushan awardee, in concert. 
Savita is the recipient of Best Performance awards from  the Music Academy and Sri Krishna Gana Sabha (Chennai), the Kalki Krishnamurti Memorial Award (2006), the Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from the Sangeet Natak Akademi (2011). A talented visual artiste across several media,

Bharatanatyam exponent Anjana ANand is known for her precise footwork, mature expressiveness (abhinaya) admirable vigour and lissome grace. Her training in the martial arts (kalaripayattu) has brought focus and firmness. Engaged in a full-time career in dance (performance, research, teaching), Anjana is an independent solo artiste who has performed in major venues in India and abroad. An alumnus of SIFAS, Singapore and Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts, Chennai
