Event Description : Sangeet Natak Akademi presents Screening of Folk Music of Garhwal by Chandra Singh Rahi and Party.
Chandra Singh Rahi, folk singer and researcher has a repertoire of thousands of folk songs covering musical forms from Garhwal and Kumaon. He was initially trained in music by his father Dilbar Singh Negi. He then developed a passion for the folk music of his region and travelled to villages throughout Uttarakhand learning from traditional practitioners. This training helped him correlate the ragas and talas as well as the unique musical features of the forms he was singing.
The melodious voice that brings an ache to the heart is only slightly less robust now that Rahi is quite aged.
Duration : 60 mins.
Background : Over the past six decades, Sangeet Natak Akademi has built up an archive of audio and video tapes, photographs, slides and films on the performing arts.
