Event Description : "Ratnabali Kant : A cutting-edge artist in retrospect 1972-2014" Exhibition.

This exhibition of Ratnabali Kant a cutting-edge artist in retrospect, (1972-2014), is
inspired by Sri Keshav Malik, who while compiling his articles for inclusion in the book on
the artist, had felt that an exhibition on the works of Ratnabali could be mounted by combining sculptures, paintings, recorded videos of installations/ performances and reproductions of different phases of Ratnabali’s artistic journey from academic period to the present day. The exhibition consists of Ratnabali’s earlier works (1972-1979) which are semi figurative and abstract in nature emphasising beauty of form, rhythm, line, planes and curves. Here, paradox between life and art is not accentuated.

Ratnabali Kant, (b. 1956) a graduate in Fine Arts in Sculpture, from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan (1977); post graduate in Creative Sculpture (1979) from M.S. University, Baroda; has done doctoral research at the University of Athens (1983-86) on a Greek Government scholarship; she is the pioneer of Installation Performance Art in India; a book on her Installation Performance Art of twenty years(1985-2005), Ephemeral Steps, Enduring Imprints, was published by the Raza Foundation in 2006; a VCD on her work was also released by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts in 2007; a documentary film on her career in art was produced; and was telecast by Doordarshan in 2012; another book Ratnabali Kant, a cutting-edge artist, a compilation of texts by three authors, 1973-2013, has been published by art & deal in 2014. Ratnabali lives and works in Delhi.
