Event Description : Delhi Karavan presents "Jahanabad ki Sair" a grand Heritage Walk.
Friends, Delhi is like a soldier, standing tall fully armed to take up the challenges this megapolis throws each day, to witness the vicissitudes , the love stories, the migrations. and where lies this soldier’s heart.....Our very own Purani Dilli (Delhi-6). Kevin Frayer, puts our feeling so well for this part of the town..... Old Delhi offers a window on India – the contrasts, the smells, the rituals. The wonderful thing about getting lost in its streets in the early morning is that you can watch this big colorful city slowly wake up and come alive. From a busy produce market to the idle conversations of rickshaw wallahs waiting for a fare, to a homeless person peering from under a rented blanket, Delhi is a vibrant and often bewildering place that’s full of extremes. It draws you in and won't let you go.
November, is quite special for us, it always will be, as Delhi Karavan turns 1 year old baby, we shall bring to you interesting events, experiences to last a lifetime. And we mark our celebrations right in the heart of Delhi- A Grand walk at Shahjahanabad. A vibrant town of smells, people, colors, food, the narrow alleys, the posters, the crumbling havelis, the markets to the stories, the more we talk about Old Dilli, the more this town widens its arms magically!!
Dellhi Karavan presents ‘Jahanabad’ ki Sair- a Grand Heritage Walk at Delhi-6’. The walk shall take you through the alleys and we tell tale our unique stories of its inception, its existence, you visit some known, some lesser known joints. Where one can cover the distance from Chawri Bazar to Chandni Chowk in 2 minutes by Metro, we shall spend a good 2.5 to 3 hours meandering around this lively place on the Sunday morning. The slight nip in the air makes it even more delicious concoction waiting to be relished!
The Walk Plan :
The walk shall begin from Chawri Bazaar Metro station, this is where we first discuss about this old market, its history, the changes.
The Karavan then shall head towards "Ballimaran," the old alleys are picture postcards of sorts, covering a longer route, we talk of home designs, the lifestyle, the people, the lane dedicated to "hakeems" we then head towards "Ghalib ki Haveli" through "Gali Qasim Jaan; can any walk in this walled city be complete without mention of the famous bard and his style and magical words. We make a brief halt here as we exchange some ‘shero shayari’ after passing through one of the alleys where the wife of Ghalib was born.
The group then shall head to Fatehpuri mosque, the masjid may lack the grandeur as of its famous counterpart, but it is its simplicity which is magical. This quaint mosque is so peaceful unlike the surrounding grand monuments that it gives a soothing contrast. Well by now our aching tummies crave for some delicious Purani Dilli ka khana , we halt to satiate our hunger pangs with traditional breakfast of this Walled city.
The Karavan, finally moves towards Chandni chowk, where we discuss about its various Katras and Gallis, while taking a walk through each of these lanes would not be possible, our interesting stories will more than make up for ambling there. We shall also pass through Haveli of Lala Chunnamal, the first Municipal of Delhi, the haveli just can’t be ignored, standing tall amidst honks, cattle, flurry of vehicles, it speaks volume of one of the richest men in Delhi post 1857!!
The Grand walk includes light ‘Shajahanabadi’ breakfast!
Now, who all need 100 more reasons to join us?? It shall be a beautiful morning with the winter sun chasing us as we move galli to galli , with our stories, experiences and much more!!
