Event Description : DelhiByFoot presents 'Chai aur Baithak with Dilli ke Ustaads'.
Delhi is a very artistic city. Having been the capital city for multiple dynasties for over a millennia and having enjoyed the patronage of many great rulers, the city has nurtured artists and craftsmen. As the centre of power, our Dilli attracted artists and artisans from across the globe and continues to be home to many such 'Ustaads' or 'Masters' of their art. Art influences a city and the city influences artists. Art colours the city and in turn takes on its colours and helps make the city a rich and dynamic kaleidoscope.
To help you connect with your inner connoisseur, DelhiByFoot presents a monthly series of 'Chai aur Baithaks with Dilli ke Ustaads", a Meet the Artist series where you can come together to meet a Delhi-based artist or master craftsman and re-awaken the 'kalakaar' and the 'rasik' in yourself.

About Calligraphy :
Calligraphy (from Ancient Greek, 'kallos' meaning beauty and 'graphe' is writing) is essentially the visual art related to design and execution of writing letters of any alphabet with a broad tip instrument or paintbrush in one flowing stroke. Ashokan Pillars are the earliest forms of calligraphy of any kind that exists in India and the golden age of Calligraphy was in Medieval and Mughal eras when the Sultans and Badshahs who may have been illiterate themselves but wanted their court-historians to write down their glory in flowing, expansively lettered biographies and court records and journals.
About the Artist :
Born in Delhi to the family of world-famous classical Dhrupad musicians the 'Dagar Family', Qamar Dagar was always drawn to visual arts, writing and painting, as well as reading poetry both in Hindi and Urdu. Her close proximity to her spiritual guru, a skillful master of Arabic calligraphy, helped her to see the beauty of written words. She has seamlessly been able to transcend the boundaries of the converging streams of classical music and art using her skills of calligraphy and art using calligraphy. She likes to pick a letter from any word and elaborate it so that it becomes the focal point, since to her, letters are complete designs in their own right. Her works are predominantly kept in private collections all over the world, but a majority being in India, France, and the USA.
