Event Description : Akshara Theatre in Association with K.A. Abbas Centenary Celebrations Committee presents 'Bapu & Me' in its Festival of Theatre, Literature, Music and Film GANDHI - THE MAN WHO BECAME A MAHATMA.
As part of its festival titled: GANDHI: THE MAN WHO BECAME A MAHATMA, the Akshara Theatre is pleased to present a programme BAPU & ME, consisting of discussions and films based around the life and work of M.K. Gandhi.
The programme will feature a discussion with 75 children aged between 4 and 16, who will present their perceptions, prose and poetry on the Mahatma. There will also be a screening of three films on the subject of Gandhi. Swachhagraha is on Gandhiji’s views on hygiene, interspersed with the efforts to improve the hygiene in a contemporary New Delhi slum. Gandhi And Partition is a film where legendary freedom fighter Aruna Asaf Ali talks on Gandhi’s thoughts on the subject of Partition. Both films are directed by Gopal Sharman. Lakshmi Ashram is a film on a unique Gandhian school in Kumaon, directed by Ajay Shetty and Anasuya Vaidya.
The Festival: THE MAN WHO BECAME A MAHATMA comprises of theatrical and musical events, book-readings, film screenings as well as an exposition/ exhibition of khadi products, organic food etc. The Festival will culminate with a presentation of the play BARRISTER AT LAW, written by the late writer-director Khwaja Ahmad Abbas whose centenary is being celebrated this year, and directed at Abbas Sahib’s express desire by the eminent playwright, director and co-founder of the Akshara Theatre, Gopal Sharman.
