Event Description : Swami Haridas-Tansen Sangeet-Nritya Mahotsava.
In order to revive the interest in our traditional art forms, both in musical and performing arts and to spread and rekindle its eminence among the younger generation, who are more attracted to western and fusion music”, the Sri Ram Centre For Performing Arts and Bharatiya Sangeet Sadan with the help of HCL, SRF Ltd., JK Tyre and Art Karat, are keenly endeavoring to focus on and commemorate the legendary guru-shishya parampara that was prevalent during the Moghul period between two of the greatest musical geniuses of India, the venerable saint-musician, poet and composer of Brindavan Swami Haridas and his illustrious disciple Mian Tansen - to keep alive and spread their heritage towards a cultural ‘renaissance’ and resuscitation of the musical ethos. This we do by holding a festival of music, dance and vocal recitals in Delhi. We woefully observe that classical music and traditional Indian Performing Arts are losingtheir Patrons in the true sense of the word. The spirit behind this festival is Uma Sharma (well known Kathak Dancer) and this festival originally started at Vrindavan with Swami Shri Gopalji of Vrindavan and then shifted to Delhi. Now for the last 15 years this festival has been organized in Delhi and the main idea is to bring senior classical musicians and dancers mainly for younger generation.Swami Haridas–Tansen Sangeet-Nritya Mahotsav has been enchanting the connoisseurs, music lovers in Delhi for the past 11 years on a modest scale to an invited audiences who are enthusiastic about the tradition of classical music and performing arts. We have witnessed the response growing every year adding new ‘converts’ from the younger generation.
In order to expand its scale and to reach out to many more especially among the younger generation and to keep alive the Indian cultural ethos. Sri Ram Centre for Performing arts and Bharatiya Sangeet Sadan are organizing the Swami Haridas Tansen Sangeet Nritya Mahotsav every year.
