Event Description : Lorenzo Silva, one of the leading writers of his generation, will talk with Indian writer Sameeer Rawal on the detective genre, the young adult novel, and the adaptations of novels into cinema.
Lorenzo Silva is one of the leading writers of his generation, best known for his five detective novels, all featuring the detective Rubén Bevilacqua and his young assistant Virginia Chamorro, who together represent the new face of Spain's Guardia Civil - a very different animal from its infamous predecessors. Silva is a sensitive and intelligent voice for our time, whose other works include El nombre de los nuestros (The Name of our People), La sustancia interior (The Inner Substance), Carta Blanca (Carte Blanche) and Niños feroces (Fierce Children), as well as books for young adults and children. He has won the Ojo Crítico Award (1998), the Nadal Award (2000) and the Primavera Award (2004) and his latest novel, La marca del meridiano, won the Premio Planeta award in 2012, one of the best known Spanish literary awards. Tow of his novels have been made into films (The Faint-hearted Bolshevik, and The Impatient Alchemist).

Sameer Rawal. Is a Hispanist, writer and translator dividing his time between Delhi and Barcelona. He works with Hindi, Spanish, English and Catalan languages. Besides articles, essays and short stories he has published a book of bilingual Hindi/Catalan poetry, Calaix de sandal (2006); Hira Chowk (2005) and Sampoorn Kahaniyan (2010), as well as Hindi translations of a novel and the stories of the emblematic Catalan writer Mercè Rodoreda. He studies the South Asian immigrant collective living in Spain and has interests in fictionalizing their narratives. Currently he is writing a Hindi pulp novel based on contemporary Indian realities. www.yosameer.in
