Event Description : RISHTEDAR (Rokonok by Zsigmond Móricz)Translated into Hindi by Indu Mazaldan
In 'Rokonok' (Relatives) Móricz sets his scene in contemporary life, around the nineteen thirties, among the bourgeois intellectuals and gentry burdened by the remains of a feudal past. A city councilor, responsible for cultural activities, is elected to the post of chief attorney. His efforts to purify and reform the system are frustrated by opposition from the mayor, who dominates the town and whose cynical ruthlessness is masked by an easy and familiar manner.
The novel is a classic from Hungarian literature. What Móricz wrote in 1930, holds true even now and the reflection of the social and political conditions of his time can be seen all around us.
Indu Mazaldan has been translating Hungarian literature for about 15 years now. This is her fifteenth translation. In 2010, the Hungarian Ministry of Culture had honored her with the 'PRO CULTURA HUNGARICA' title.
