In the depths of a schoolhouse in Auvergne, Georges Lopez is the dedicated teacher to a thirteen children “Only Class”. His pupils are aged between 4 to 12 years and learn to live together. Nicolas Philibert is the Director of Être et avoir, he decided to follow the daily routine of this schoolhouse from June to December. Scholar rhythm evolves at the whim of seasons and each of us watching this documentary witnesses the particular and intimate relationship between the teacher and his thirteen pupils. Beyond themes as apprenticeship and transmission of knowledge, the documentary film is also a story about the difficulties of growing up. Être et avoir reveals the layered aspects of childhood and question the moving from a peaceful environment to another one in high school.
