21st December : ARJUN KA BETA
Duration : 80 min.
This play which is a poetic rendition of a conversation between Yudhisthira and Bheeshma shows a word‐to‐word description of the bravado of great Abhimanyu given to Bheeshma by Yudhishtir who also shares his inability to face Arjun who would soon be coming back from the battlefield and ask for his son. Similarly Subhadra and young Uttara will also have their share of doubts, questions and allegations. Draupadi also questions Yudhishthir for not sending her sons to the Chakravyuh instead of Abhimanyu as the pride and glory of martyrdom in Chakravyuh belonged to her sons. Bheeshma motivates Yudhishtira to face the reality and all the questions. Also, he requires Yudhisthir to pass on to Arjun the message that it has been enough of spiritual teaching through Bhagwat Geeta. Now, is the time to get down to what a father should be doing when his son has been brutally killed in the battlefield. Finally, Krishna appears and settles all questions by telling no one has ever been able to come out of their respective Chakravyuhs as this whole life is a nothing but a Chakravyuh.
22nd December : DRAUPADI
Duration : 100 min.
Draupadi has always been a celebrated character of the epic of Mahabharata and many myths, conventions and perceptions have been associated with her in various versions of her life story. This plays takes excerpts from the story of Draupadi as known to everybody and adds to is some imaginative sequences to bring out the real essence of association between Draupadi and today's women. This juxtaposing makes this work fit to be called an imaginative re‐telling of certain chapters from Draupadi'a life.
The incidents in the play take place in an Indian village in late 1960s. A bunch of playful females of a large family of Haryanvi rural performers, decide to play Draupadi in absence of all the males of the family. In the process they discover how closely their lives are a reflection of Draupadi's life. This intense story unfolds in an incredibly light and seamless and makes the production a literary marvel presented in a visually delightful manner. Like all other productions of the society this play is also high on folk music.
