Event Description : Nostalgia Colours presents 'Simply Suhas' A solo painting exhibition by Suhas Roy.
Kolkata based art-house NOSTALGIA COLOURS promoted by Suhas Roy himself, Mrs. Swati Roy and Mr. Kumar Satyapriya present “Simply Suhas” a solo exhibition by Suhas Roy. This show will highlight the Journey of Suhas Roy in Art. The very purpose of the show - not profit, but to showcase the totality of the artist called ‘Suhas Roy’.
This show will play host to a collection of his portraits of the irresistible Radha, in different moods as a mystical woman. His landscapes, his images of Durga, Christ and Buddha, well beyond the religious context. And then his Mistress of the Moon, all are testimony to his artistic brilliance. These elements ensure that his richly romantic subjects do not touch extreme syrupy and stereotypical portrayals. Instead, their very patent beauty veers towards melancholic grace and elegance. This graceful portrayal of his subjects has much to do with his choice of materials - crayons, charcoal and brush ' is usually inspired by life around him, but his themes are as much influenced by the everyday world as they are rooted in fantasy. The vast and complex texture of life is seen as mystical and dark in his work.
The mystical flavour of his works arose from his interpretations of the 'unknown'. Revealing his philosophy, the artist has been quoted as saying: 'I want to prove that the business of art is simple'. Roy has proved that it is not necessary to fret and fume or deliver profound sermons. Success can come from delicate little strokes, small but honest commitments and simple joys. This show will bring to the viewer, a rare combination of lasting beauty and nuanced depth-never compromising one for the other.
What made him famous were his portraits of Radha, a mythological character. Roy's Radha does not resemble the frolicking types institutionalized by myths but is a lonely replica of a contemporary consciousness ' erotic and exuding a mystical quality that is hard to fathom. She has cascading hair and casts long wistful looks.
A fine blend of beauty and simplicity remain the hallmark of Suhas Roy's work. His preoccupation is primarily with the female face and form, and his subjects are romanticized, inhabiting the dreamlike world between sensuality and innocence.
As the title suggests, ‘Simply Suhas’ will showcase the artist at his simple, understated best. The city of Delhi, not new to his art will witness his first solo show since 2010.
