Time : 7:00 pm
Entry : One has to buy the invitation card from C - 504, Defence Colony, New Delhi
Place : German Ambassador’s residence
Event Details : Earth Foundation announces a special fashion show and charity event. Diplomats take to the ramp for the Girl Child.
In a fund raiser organised by Earth Foundation in collaboration with the German Embassy in New Delhi, diplomats from several countries will participate in a fashion show headlined by leading Indian designers in aid of the Girl Child. This event launches the Earth Foundation’s Campaign for 1 Million Self-Reliant Under-Privileged Girls and coincides with two decades of its diverse initiatives to improve quality of life. Following the show will be an awards ceremony highlighting those advancing the cause of the Girl Child in a significant way. The HOPE Awards will recognize the pioneering work of emerging individuals, men and women, doing exemplary work on behalf of under-privileged children.
While we are all aware of the plight of the Girl Child in India, this awareness does not translate into action often enough. This is the case particularly in economically underprivileged families, where anything spent on the Girl Child’s education and health is seen as a waste of resources that can be better utilised for her male sibling who will then be able to repay this investment when he starts earning unlike his sister who will impose a further drain on already slim resources by requiring a dowry when she is married.
To this end, the Earth Foundation is hosting a charity event at the German Ambassador’s residence with the fashion show as the highlight. Heads of mission and their spouses from several countries will walk the ramp wearing emsembles contributed by leading Indian designers like Ashish Soni, Rohit Gandhi, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Namrata Joshipura, Nida Mahmood, Niki Mahajan, Satya Paul, Anjana Bhargava, Anju Modi, Poonam Bhagat, Pia Fleming, Varun Bahl, Shobhna & Vijay Arora, Ritu Kumar, Sonam Dubal, Rina Dhaka, Anu PD, Satya Paul, Joseph Ribkoff, Shantanu and Nikhil, to name a few. Some of the diplomats who will be walking the ramp to the girl child’s aspirations include: Bangladesh - Madame Naghma Karim and Ms Mahin Karim, Canada - High Commissioner Stewart Beck and Madame Brenda Beck, Denmark - Ambassador Freddy Svane and Madame Lise Frederiksen and Anna Svane, Germany – Acting Ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt and Madame Gladys Abankwa-Meier-Klodt and Ms Kyra Meier-Klodt, Israel - Madame Inbar Ushpiz, Kazakhstan – Ambassador Doulat Kuanyshev and Madame Gulmira Mamytbayeva, Portugal - Ambassador Jorge Roza de Oliveira and Madame Maria Martorell, Russia - Madame Diana Alipova , Singapore - High Commissioner Karen Tan, Slovenia - Madame Yukie Premoze, Sri Lanka - High Commissioner Prasad Kariyawasam, Switzerland - Acting Ambassador Martin Strub, Madame Marcela Strub, Ms Analucia Strub and Rafael Strub, Trinidad & Tobago - High Commissioner Chandradath Singh and Madame Anita Singh, Turkey - Madame Dr. Sebnem K Akcapar and Onat Akcapar, Tunisia - Madame Raoudha Laouani Azouz, Earth Foundation - Diya Joya Datwani to name a few.
