Event Details : Natya ballet Centre presents The Dance Drama 'Shankunthalam' by Kalidasa.
The dramatic story of King Dushyanta falling in love with Shakunthala, the beautiful daughter of Menaka, in Sage Kanva’s Ashram. Due to a curse by Sage Durvasa, who is angered by Shakunthala neglecting to honour him, due to her being preoccupied with thinking of Dushyanta, the King forgets her and refuses to recognize her when she comes to the Royal Court, pregnant with his child.
The distraught Shakunthala rebukes Dushyantha and vanishes . Dushyanta regains his memory when he sees the Signet Ring that he had given her .He laments and searches for her everywhere and, eventually, finds her .He asks for her forgiveness and is happily united with Shakunthala and their son, Bharata, after whom India Continues to be called Bharatvarsha.
Danced in the Kathak Style by the two out-standing Kathak Dancers, HARI and CHETHANA and their Ensemble.
