Event Details : Alliance Francaise De Delhi presents Oriental rock concert by Les Boukakes.

Formed 9 years ago, LES BOUKAKES comprises of 7 members: Bachir on vocals,  Thierry, the Corsican guitarist, Aki with the keyboards and Kurdistan on accordions, Bubulle- the bass player from the north, Imed,  the  Tunisian derboukist, Pascal- drummer from the south and Massimo.- Italian musician  of the team.

The Exile gave birth to the “Boukake”…

The word “Boukake” which is a phonetic mixture of two typical racists insults that they received on the streets and is their response to the non-friendly comments while in exile. Even though their songs are devoid of any political overtones, the resistance to bias and ignorance in general is hard to miss.

The band has now come a long way in their music journey. Having moved from the street to bars, from small concerts to festivals, reaching out to their audiences, they now share the stage with famous bands like FEMI KUTI, MANU DIBANGO, TARAF DE HAÏDOUKS, NATACHA ATLAS, RACHID TAHA, MANU CHAO and others...

Though they recorded their first album Makach Mouch'kil (No Problem) in 2001 and it was a great success with the music lovers and media. The lyrics with oriental melodies harmoniously swing o Rock, Groove,  Electronic, Rai, or Gnawa. It was not until 2004 that their music genre was fully recognized through professional prizes (FAIR, Découvertes Printemps de Bourges..) and an European TV channel, ARTE, chose to follow their development for documentaries. This was followed by the release of a new album “Bledi”, which established the fact that happy and joyous combination of Orient and Occident is possible!

Between 2005 and 2007 the band toured 15 countries and gave over 150 performances. Some of the significant performances to their credit include the Festival international of Jazz of Montréal, the Paléo festival, the WOMEX 2005, the Sziget Festival, Sakifo Festival, Amsterdam Roots Festival, Timitar Festival Morocco among others.

They were recently nominated for The BBC Awards for World Music and also recorded their third album ‘’MARRA’’ (co-prodused with Philipe Eidel and Franck Redlich).
