About Vipul Chandra Das : In art instinct is all. It is instinct which dictates duty. So the artist must follow his instincts at all times, to make his art the most real thing. Excuses do not exist in art, intentions do not count there. Vipul Chandra Das appears as one who follows his instincts. For long, and stubbornly, he has wrestled with his angels & demons. That he has not bothered to publicize his works for a decade testifies to a catholicity of spirit. A rather rare attitude to adopt in these days of quick turnovers! Reactions from other eyes could be helpful, as they always are for the artists. There is an ample stretch of working life before him, which means he may scale still taller peaks. Already we observe in his present works an air of effortless ease. This can come only from sufficient skill and self confidence. These works can have an exuberance of color and freshness of their own.
At their best there is fluidity sensuousness; at the least a daring simplicity. The painter seems to impose his own personal and psychological vision on his works. Certain of them are spontaneous the artist appears to give a free rein to his disarming jocularity. Here then is energy, technical skill and a lot of fire.
The economy of statement with which the painter evokes an object or a pictorial effect is attained breathes life into Vipul’s work. In the best of them we read artistic meanings in a flash and immediacy of impact adds to its intensity.
If the artist sticks to his obstinacy, he is sure to do us all, including his native Assam (India), proud.
About Santosh Andani : Santosh Andani born about 27 years before in Honna Kiranagi – a sleepy quiet hamlet in Gulbarga in Karnataka educated himself in Gulbarga and Bangalore to chart out his artistic journey. In this exhibition he has painted lonely, isolated, haunting human figures emerging from a still surface. There are bio-medico depictions of human brain and heart. His works are about isolation, loneliness, alienation and lack of communication so common in urban spreads of life. The emerge from his direct experience of living faceless in a city.
