• Il Deserto dei TartariThe year is 1907. The 20-year-old lieutenant Drogo is sent as first assignment to a fortress near a desert zone, where he waits for the expected enemy that never comes. Zurlini set Dino Buzzati’s novel in an historical frame (1907, at the east borders of the Austro-Hungarian Empire) and stressed its concreteness, hinting what’s beyond the facts and working hard on the characters. This is the film in which he combined his preference for the investigation on feelings and his deep interest in History.
