Event Description : Ananya Dance Festival 2013.
Ananya is a festival of Indian classical dances that features the major classical forms on a single stage. It is, perhaps, the only one of its kind to present group choreography in various styles. Ananya brings to you the vibrancy of contemporary creativity in the Indian dance tradition. The dancers drawn from different styles, explore new vistas in responding to the challenges and of our times.
Says Manjot Chawla, Creative head, Ananya Dance Festival: “With the unstinted support of the people of Delhi, and indeed the Chief Minister herself, Ananya Dance Festival has become one of the biggest cultural events of India. Since 2002, every year a large number of classical dance enthusiasts throng the magical Purana Qila to savour the unique experience. The schools of Delhi come to enjoy the workshops that take place along with the evening performances. Ananya in its 12th year truly exemplifies the spirit of a culturally vibrant Delhi.”
While one the greatest achievements of Ananya have been to discover budding artistes and establish their indisputable talent, it has also maintained high standards by featuring established seniors to perform at this annual dance fest. With the audience always spilling over into the aisles at the venue and even into the far off lawns at Purana Qila, Ananya Dance festival is a much awaited event on Delhi’s cultural calendar.

Pratibimb - between practitioners of dance and the audience. As an attempt to bridge the distance between the performer on stage and the rasikas in the audience, Pratibimb is envisioned as an interactive session that will explore the creative process that leads to the final choreographies we see on stage.
During the two-day seminar, the discussion not only hopes to have the dancer-choreographers articulate their own thought process while they create but also to address certain larger questions that are so relevant to Indian classical dance and other performative traditions today. The seminar is a dialogue, led by the choreographers, but enlivened through the participation of the audience - young dancers, scholars, students, dance-enthusiasts.
