Event Description : 'Kaya Kalap' A solo exhibition of sculptures by Neeraj Gupta.
The noted installation-cum-sculptor artist Neeraj Gupta who specializes in recreating an iconic resurgence from fallen and uprooted trees, in the shape of mammoth sculptural statements, is poised to showcase a series of wood and metal sculptures in a solo show, titled ‘Kaya Kalp’. Being held at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre, from 24th January, 2013, till 3rd February, 2013, these sculptures represent the telling contours of different classical dance forms in India. Drawn from the traditions written about in the Natyashastra, the postures grab the attention of the viewer in gleaming metal when contrasted against sombre wood. With a penchant for reconfiguring forms from discards, Gupta has utilized domestic kitchenware, in the way of pots and pans, to shape his metallic creations. The final effect is the blossoming of forms in dance postures that bespeak a rare harmony and synchronization of rhythm, stance and artistic depiction.Event Description : 'Kaya Kalap' A solo exhibition of sculptures by Neeraj Gupta.
In addition to small-size sculptures, the show contains specimens of wood sculptures fashioned with dexterity, and created to draw the viewer into relishing challenging situations of expressive arrangements. In all these works the overriding principle of minimal interference has been kept sacrosanct. Thus the natural grooves of the wood and the bend and fold of the metal are held as distinct giving the works highlighted in all the works. The sculptures thus makes simple and forthright statements of pjure art through their ingenious makeover.
The artist has held several solo shows in India. He is also the recipient of the Best Sculptor Award at the 77th Annual Art exhibition of AIFACS. His works are a convincing continuation of the contemporary attempt of making art from unique and untried mediums.
